A Day Out in Downtown Los Angeles

Today was President’s Day here in the United States and I decided to do a solo day of exploring in Downtown Los Angeles. Since it was just me, I didn’t want to drive or pay for parking so I hopped onto the Metrolink and took it down to LA Union Station.

Union Station is the central nerve system for Los Angeles’ transportation. You can catch the subway or a bus from here and it can take you anywhere from Azusa to Santa Monica to Long Beach. From Union Station, I wanted to get to Pershing Square out in Bunker Hill area of downtown. You could either take the Red or Purple Line and I just so happen to catch the Purple Line. Once I got to Pershing Square, I headed towards Grand Central Market. Grand Central Market is filled to brim of delicious foods, drinks, and good feels. I’ve been there a few times, but never on my own. Most people go there to get Eggslut, but since I’ve tried it before, I headed to Jose Chiquito. They serve diner style foods along with great Mexican food. I decided to get the BTA Omelette which includes bacon, cheese, tomato, and avocado! It was delicious! After eating my filling breakfast and taking some Instagram shots of Grand Central Market, I headed towards Blue Bottle Coffee. I’ve seen this place all over social media, so I was curious. It’s a boutique coffee shop and I got the iced cold brew, which was pretty good, but a little pricey. The shop itself was super cute, so I took my time with my coffee and took more pictures inside.

Across the street from Grand Central Market is Angels Flight which is a short cable car the runs up and down Bunker Hill that has been around since the 1900’s. I took Angels Flight up to the Museum of Contemporary Art. I was hoping to spend a few hours at the museum, but they renovating over half of the museum so I only spent 30 minutes. Since I had a lot more time to kill, I decided to head down to Walt Disney Concert Hall and Grand Park. With the curved lines and reflective materials, I took my time to appreciate the architecture of the concert hall and took a bunch of pictures. After, I headed towards Grand Park and to LA City Hall. I was hoping to explore the observation deck, but since it was federal holiday I knew it would be closed and it was.

After, I headed back up towards to concert hall and to the US Bank Tower to experience the OUE Skyspace at the top of the tower. The OUE Skyspace gives you panoramic views of the downtown. Also featured there is a see-through slide you can ride on the side of the building from the 70th floor to the 69th floor. The views from up there are so breathe taking. After gawking at the view for a few moments, I headed towards to slide. At first I was pretty nervous since its all see-through, but once you ride it it’s not bad. The slide is so short, you barely have anytime to look around. After the slide, I spent another hour up there and admiring the view. It was amazing.

Afterwards, I headed towards 7th Street and Metro to explore the area. I thought the walk to be further, but it was pretty close and easy. I checked out a few shops and ended up near the big Macy’s and ended my day with a nice coffee. Since my fiance works in downtown, I met up with him and we headed home together. Overall, my day went pretty well and it was so easy to get around on foot and by the metro. I would highly recommend the train and subway to anyone since it’s so easy and convenient to get around without a car! Hope you enjoyed my post and hope you got some inspiration to check out Downtown Los Angeles. There’s still so much more to do in Los Angeles and I hope to explore it soon!

Photo Diary: A Day in Los Angeles

Today my boyfriend and I went to check out the Natural History Museum in LA and Downtown Los Angeles. The Natural History museum is so amazing. I’m so surprised that I have not been to there yet, but it was definitely an experience to check it out, I highly recommend it. In the museum, you get to explore different species from different places around the world and different time periods. It’s so amazing. Also, the museum exposes you to different cultures and different areas around the world. Also, they have a great exhibit that explores how Los Angeles was found and developed. After we explored the museum and the grounds around it, we headed towards downtown. We walked around near Broadway and ate at Umami Burger. It was so delicious! My boyfriend had the “Manly” burger with the truffle fries and I had the Umami “Original” burger with the Korean Fries. It was all really delicious! Today was so much fun. I love days like these. To the next adventure!

LOS ANGELES: Day Trip 06/22/2014

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I went on a short day trip throughout Downtown Los Angeles yesterday. I wanted to take some pictures in Downtown LA and just see what else was out there. The fun part was that we went all around LA through the metro! Which was great because I didn’t have to worry about my car!

First, we stopped into the Farmer’s Market near Pershing Square to get some breakfast at Eggslut. We waited nearly 40 minutes all together in line and for a our food. It was ok, but not really worth the long wait. I do however, want to try other things on the menu.

Next, we went across the street to the famous Bradbury Building. This building is so plain on the outside, but once you step inside, it’s sooooo beautiful. This building was feature in the movie 500 Days of Summer. And the architecture of this building is just amazing. I’m really happy to have found it.

This was such a fun and relaxing day. Hopefully we can do it again, but in a new city.

CicLAvia 2012

Today my family and I, with Wesley!, went to Downtown LA to enjoy CicLAvia. Basically if you don’t know what CicLAvia is, it’s an event that the city of Los Angeles holds. They shut down some streets in the downtown area and let bikers, walkers, skaters, what have you, ride the streets of LA without any cars, which is nice! Also, its promotes “Angelenos” to rediscover the city, which it really did. When you’re riding through the city, you really appreciate the architecture throughout the city. It’s quite amazing.

The day started off well. Left the house around 8:45 AM and got to downtown around 9:15AM. We saw that the streets were already closed and ready for the riders. My parents and my boyfriend and I decided to head out in our own separate ways. Wesley and I headed out on our own way and explored the different areas that were open to us to ride. We went down to MacArthur Park and down to Exposition Park and USC to Chinatown. Throughout this ride, I realized that LA had some beauty to it, especially the architecture. I’ve never seen LA in this perspective before, it was really nice. The only thing that ruined it were the hords of people who also showed up to the event. If you know me, you know I’m not one for crowds. I hate them, but I need to learn to deal with them. Also, the last time I did a bike event through LA, I crashed… hard, because of a dumbass rider infront of me. And let me tell you, there were plenty dumbass riders today, which made me nervous. But, yay for me, I didn’t crash! Thank the lord! haha. After the ride, my parents met up with me and my boyfriend and ended the day with cheap, but amazing Chinese food in Chinatown.

After today, I have a better appreciation for Los Angeles now.

Picture time. 🙂
